Some people just think of Lake Travis when they think waterfront but Lake Travis is only one of a string of 7 lakes cumulatively called the Highland Lakes of Central Texas which includes Lady Bird Lake (formerly known as Town Lake), Lake Austin and Lake Travis as well as Inks Lake, Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls.
Closest in to downtown Austin is the Ladybird Lake. Many condo projects offer waterviews and the Westlake Hills area is a very central location to enjoy waterfront. Lakeway off 620 remains popular as well as the new Rough Hollow Lakeway lakefront community and Yacht club.
Waterfront SOUTH LAKE
The Reserve at Lake Travis and Barton Creek Lakeside are in the south lake area of Lake Travis in Spicewood,TX. Briarcliff, TX is a great waterfront area. Lakeway,TX Costa Bella, Thurman Bend Estates, Vineyard Bay and Flintrock Falls. Hudson Bend. Popular Steiner Ranch has a gated waterfront community of Bellagio Estates on Lake Austin.
Lake Travis Waterfront : NORTH LAKE
For the North Lake area try Volente,TX and Leander,TX for waterfront home areas. Next by driving would be Jonestown,TX for the Hollows or gated waterview neighborhood of Northlake Hills off Reed Parks Rd. and then waterfront communities around Lago Vista,TX and Point Venture,TX.
From Lago Vista take scenic 1431 over to to Marble Falls,TX and the Max Starke Dam.
Next is Horseshoe Bay on Lake LBJ, Granite Shoals and Sunrise Beach Village going all the way up to Kingsland,TX. Lake LBJ was named after President Lyndon Baynes Johnson. Beginning at Highway 29 with the Buchanan Dam is Lake Buchanan, the second largest and furthest upstream of the Highland Lakes. Enjoy catching some Striper (Striped bass) in Lake Buchanan.
