Central Texas is a fast growing region which includes the Austin-Round Rock, Texas Metro areas and the Texas Hill Country. 1.5 million people are predicted to move to Central Texas in the next 20 to 40 years. Envision Central Texas (ECT) is a non-profit organization providing help in addressing the growth of Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties in Central Texas. The Central Texas Greenprint for Growth was just released. A joint project of Envision Central Texas, Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) and the Trust for Public Land (TPL), the Greenprint for Growth helps balance conservation needs with the need for infrastructure.

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) delivers electricity to many parts of Centrail Texas and manages the water supply as well as the environment of the lower Colorado River basin. LCRA also provides public parks, recreation areas, nature parks, environmental learning centers such as Westcave Preserve, natural resource areas and river access sites, meeting & dining facilities. The Edwards Aquifer is an artesian aquifer providing water for south central Texas. The Edwards Aquifer Authority manages the aquifer. Edwards Aquifer Recovery Implementation Program or EARIP

Commuter Rail

The Lone Star Rail District ( formerly called the Austin-San Antonio Commuter Rail District) will create LSTAR rail service to connect San Antonio to Austin by commuter rail service. There are 16 rail stations proposed between Georgetown, TX and San Antonio, TX.

Leander Texas to Austin Texas 32 mile Commuter Rail

CapMetro commuter rail service between Leander, TX and Austin, TX over a 32 mile track began service March 22, 2010. Veolia was the contractor for Capital Metro that was setting up the commuter rail as well as managing the freight operations on the track but now it is Herzog. Transportation Organizations: Planning and Implementation

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization or CAMPO is the MPO or Metropolitan Planning Organization for Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties in Central Texas. CAMPO coordinates the transportation planning of these counties, cities within these counties and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Capital Area Rural Transportation System or CARTS as well as the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority or Capital Metro.
