Green Austin

GREEN Austin, TX

Austin works very hard to protect the environment.  Many Austin residents try to eat local, live green & sustainably, retrofit or build green homes. Opportunities to commune with nature through horseback riding, hiking, ziplining, gardening, fishing, caving, canoeing & looking at GREEN properties abound. There are many groups who teach and model sustainable living and permaculture. Organic gardening, green or living roofs and rainwater collection are becoming more and more popular.

Bats in Austin, Texas

One way to protect our environment is by protecting the bats through bat conservation efforts. Bat Conservation International is located in Austin, Texas on Capital of Texas Highway. Although the Congress Avenue bat flights are well publicized, spectacular bat flights can be seen from your car while on IH 35 in Round Rock at 8pm in Summer traveling northbound near 620.

Fun on the Colorado River

Skulling on Ladybird Lake, renting canoes or kayaks at Zilker Park or taking a trip down the Colorado is great fun. Cook’s Canoe’s in Webberville offers a several hour canoe ride with shuttle service for a low price. There are also kayaks available for rent & skulling lessons in Cedar Park at Row Paddle Brushy Creek at Brushy Creek Lake by Avery Ranch.
