Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater Harvesting in Austin Texas
Texas has new laws that make rain water harvesting exempt from all zoning, city ordinance or home owners associations contracts. Conceivably, a car-port with gutters and a rain-barrel would be protected as a rainwater collection device in areas that don’t allow car-ports too. Also, they have a new Master Gardener Rainwater Collection expert status. This is so unlike states like Colorado that have rain gutters going to the ground in theoretically “green” homes.

The Austin, Texas area has a lot of rainwater collection goin’ on. I’ve sold homes with total rainwater collection where rain is the ONLY water source. This is also very common down south of Austin around Drippin’ or Dripping Springs. Founded in 1994, the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association is headquartered here in Austin at 919 Congress Ave., Ste. 460, Austin, TX 78701. The mission of ARCSA is to promote rainwater catchment in the US. Membership is encouraged and open to people worldwide. I love to market homes with rainwater collection. Imagine using wonderful “cloud water” or rain to drink, bathe and shower in, wash clothes in PLUS water your yard! You have control over your own water supply- you collect it, store it, treat it. No dependance on a city, well, etc. No water bill! Some people think this is strange but actually rainwater collection is an old idea.

Fulton mansion had a rainwater catchment system

Pictured above is the Fulton Mansion, which was built between 1874 and 1877 and located near Rockport, Texas (317 Fulton Beach Road, Fulton, Texas 78358 1-361-729-0386 Tours available) had a rainwater catchment system. I recently marketed another old home built around 1897 which as a rainwater catchment system consisting of gutters and an underground cement cistern.

I marketed a home recently in the Austin Real Estate market with an over 30,000. gallon underground rainwater collection system. See below:

Underground rainwater cistern located in travis county holds 30,000+ gallons of rainwater

This underground ferrocement rainwater cistern (pictured) located in Travis County holds 30,000+ gallons of rainwater. When it overfills several times a year, the excess rainwater flows out of the PVC pipes (pictured) over into the valley below. Want to buy a home with total rainwater collection? I’ll help you find or build a home with a great one similar to the one here at Sol Luna Lluvia- a home in tune with the sun, the moon and the rain. Come to Austin, Texas and have a glass of wonderful Texas rain! You’ll want to stay! And the great Hill Country views don’t hurt either!!
