RASTRA or Other ICF Construction
Energy Efficient Greenbuilt Homes in Austin, Texas: RASTRA or other ICF Construction
Although there are other similar ICF products, RASTRA bills itself as the original ICF or composite Insulating Concrete Form. Other ICF products are Ener-Grid, GreenBlock, Eco Block & others.
Building with recycled materials: The blocks are made from 85% recycled expanded polystyrene (or Styrofoam) and 15% cement. The styrofoam would have ended up in landfills until perhaps forever.
Using RASTRA contributes LEED points. RASTRA helps with deforestation by reducing timber consumption, and aids in IAG (Indoor Air Quality) since there are no wood preservatives or glues. RASTRA was introduced in 1972 & makes its headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona. RASTRA manufacturing plants are located in New Mexico & Ohio. The manufactuing process is considered ecologically clean.
The ICF built home I recently sold below has a “Santa Fe” adobe look stucco exterior finish.
The interior finish is a hand plaster finish on all walls and ceilings.
RASTRA is a member of the US Green Building Council
RASTRA says its ICF walls are engineered to stand up to the challenges of tornados, fires, hurricanes & earthquakes.
Hence, the GREEN home below also features an ICF interior closet designed for use as a storm shelter. Custom, Site Specific GREEN Home designed by Austin, Texas GREEN architect Peter Pfeiffer.
